The Alberta Student Mobility Awards are intended to acknowledge, reward and support new AU students from Alberta who have transferred credits from another Educational Institution towards an AU degree program. AU Access Fund for Students with Disabilities
Awarded to an Athabasca University student or students with an identified learning, physical, or mental disability. A disability is a functional limitation resulting from physical, sensory or mental impairment, which, for an indefinite period, affects the ability of the student to perform the activities necessary to participate fully in post-secondary learning. Candidates must be participating in undergraduate or graduate coursework at Athabasca University. Preference will be given to students in an Athabasca University degree, diploma, or certificate program who have made noteworthy progress towards graduation and who have an identified financial need for funding assistance.

Description of the award
These awards are intended to facilitate the research conducted by AU graduate program students to assist in partially covering the costs incurred while completing a thesis/dissertation or major project. Examples of anticipated expenses that a student may incur include purchasing licenses for statistical software such as SPSS, NVIVO, mileage to conduct interviews for the research, or obtaining copyright permission to use a particular research tool/instrument.

The AU Doctoral Student Bursaries are intended to assist students in continuing their education without interruption due to financial need or exceptional life circumstances.
Current AU students in financial need and/or those who face exceptional life circumstances are invited to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in an AU doctoral program, must have completed a minimum of 3 AU credits at the doctoral level and must have an AU program GPA of 3.0 or higher. Additional circumstances such as disabilities, single parent/caregiver status, and so forth may be considered. Students may receive a maximum of 2 bursaries during their program of study.

Any student at a First Nation College is able to apply, although preference will be given to students from Red Crow College. Students may reapply and receive this award more than once.

Recipients must have a cumulative graduate program AU GPA of 3.60 or greater. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated the ability to balance full-time employment and family and community roles with a significant course load (9 AU graduate-level credits per year or more) and a record of academic achievement. Students are eligible to receive this award only once. Students of doctoral programs are not eligible.

AU Indigenous Welcome Bursary
The AU Indigenous Welcome Bursary is intended to encourage and support Indigenous students who wish to pursue studies at Athabasca University (AU) yet face financial barriers that inhibit their ability to do so. Open to Indigenous students who are Canadian citizens. Students may reapply and receive this bursary two times.

AU PLAR Scholarship
Athabasca University has long been at the forefront of accessible and flexible education. As a part of its suite of innovative processes for providing educational services to a diverse clientele, AU promotes a robust Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process whereby learners can obtain credit for their prior and experiential learning acquired throughout their lives or in their workplaces. AU Undergraduate Outstanding Achievement Scholarships (old name Fall Program Scholarships)
Awarded annually to current students with the highest grade average on the best 15 AU credits that are earned during their first year (1 to 30 credits), second year (31 to 60 credits), third year (61 to 90 credits) or fourth year (91 to 120 credits) of program study in an undergraduate program from July 1 to June 30 of the previous year. A GPA of 3.60 or higher must be attained on the best 15 AU credits within either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study to be eligible. Harold Cardinal Essay Prize for Aboriginal Students
These prizes are awarded annually in recognition of outstanding achievement by Athabasca University (AU) undergraduate students for written work on the preservation of Aboriginal and treaty rights. An original essay formally submitted for coursework from any AU undergraduate program, which was marked or graded are considered eligible for submission. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent and must also be able to demonstrate commitment to Aboriginal rights, a history of advocacy for Aboriginal people, and contribution to community, law, politics, or government as they pertain to Aboriginal people. Harold Cardinal (Cree, Sucker Creek First Nation) was a visionary and advocate for Aboriginal peoples in Canada. He was an author, a teacher, a lawyer and a scholar. His books “The Unjust Society: The Tragedy of Canada’s Indians” and “The Rebirth of Canada’s Indians” were pivotal to the understanding of Aboriginal/Non Aboriginal relations upon their release in 1969 and 1977, respectively.

Indigenous Careers Award
The Alberta Advanced Education (AAE) Indigenous Careers Award is intended to encourage a larger proportion of Indigenous Albertans to pursue and complete full time post secondary studies in a certificate, diploma or bachelor’s degree program.

Nick Evasiuk Scholarship in Sociology
Awarded annually (July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current year) to the program student with the highest grade in Soci 287: Introduction to Sociology. This scholarship has been established to honour Nick Evasiuk's contributions to the community of Athabasca. A longtime businessman and social democrat, he will be remembered as a very special person, a poet, advocate of peace and justice, and friend of the environment. Throughout his lifetime, he demonstrated a personal attitude of caring and a business attitude of fairness towards everyone he encountered each day. The Rolf Nielsen Award in Labour Studies offers recognition and financial support to Athabasca University program students pursuing a University Certificate in Labour Studies or a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies. Awarded annually (July 1 of previous year to June 30 of current year) to the student who has completed the most AU credits towards AU’s Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies or University Certificate in Labour Studies program. Undergraduate Lab Travel Awards
The Undergraduate Lab Travel Awards are intended to help offset the travel costs that students incur in order to take part in the required laboratory component of Athabasca University (AU) undergraduate science courses. They are awarded to AU undergraduate program or unclassified students who have successfully completed (passed) a 3 credit science course, in which travel to complete lab work occurred between October 16, of the previous year and October 15, of the current year. Successful completion of the science course is required. Preference will be given to those students that have never received an undergraduate lab travel award. Students traveling for LABB 207 who have successfully completed BIOL 204 and/or BIOL 205 are eligible to apply for this award.
